Tekken 7 – PS4

The long-running Mishima family saga concludes — Tekken 7 delivers deep, 3D-movement-based fighting alongside a dramatic story mode.

Product Description

Tekken 7 was developed and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment, originally releasing in arcades in Japan in 2015 before a home console release (including PS4) in June 2017. It's the ninth mainline entry in the long-running Tekken franchise, one of the most historically significant 3D fighting game series, and was positioned as the dramatic conclusion to the multi-generational Mishima family conflict that had served as the series' central narrative thread since the original 1994 game.

Unlike primarily 2D-plane fighters such as Street Fighter or Mortal Kombat, Tekken's core identity is built around genuine 3D movement — sidestepping and circling opponents is a fundamental strategic layer alongside traditional attacking and blocking. Tekken 7 introduced the "Rage Art" system (powerful, cinematic finishing moves usable when low on health) and further refined the series' long-standing juggle-combo and okizeme (post-knockdown pressure) systems that have made it a mainstay of competitive fighting game tournaments for decades.

Critical reception was strongly positive, with Tekken 7 widely regarded as a high point for the series and a significant, well-supported entry in the fighting game genre's competitive esports scene, receiving years of substantial post-launch content including new characters (several drawn from crossovers with other franchises) and balance updates.

If you enjoy Tekken 7's 3D-movement-based fighting mechanics, you'll also want to try Soul Calibur VI for another 3D fighting game with a distinct weapons-based combat system, often bundled or compared alongside Tekken; Street Fighter V for a contrasting, primarily 2D-plane fighting game with its own storied competitive history; and Samurai Shodown for a different, slower-paced weapons-focused fighting game.
