Crimson Desert – PS5

An ambitious open-world epic years in the making — Crimson Desert delivers freeform combat and a vast continent to explore from the makers of Black Desert Online.

Product Description

Crimson Desert was developed and published by Pearl Abyss, releasing on PS5 in March 2026 after a lengthy, closely-watched development period dating back to its original 2019 announcement (initially conceived as a prequel to Black Desert Online before evolving into a standalone title). It's an open-world action-adventure set on the fictional continent of Pywel, following Kliff, leader of the Greymanes, as he reunites his scattered companions and rallies the continent's factions against a looming threat, traversing environments from snow-capped mountains to sprawling deserts.

Built on an upgraded version of the proprietary engine behind Black Desert Online, the game emphasizes freeform, physical combat and large-scale boss battles; Pearl Abyss has explicitly stated the game is not a Soulslike despite some surface similarities, launching initially without distinct difficulty modes. Critical reception at launch was mixed-to-positive (Metacritic scores in the high 70s on both PC and PS5), with reviewers praising its combat feel and scale while noting some narrative and pacing rough edges; notably, Pearl Abyss committed to an unusually aggressive post-launch patching schedule, with weekly updates substantially improving the game (including adding difficulty options) in the months following release.
